He Seventh Criminal Oral Trial Court of Santiago condemned Kimberly Ianira Medina Moraga a seven years of effective imprisonment, as the perpetrator of the consummate crime of patricide, illicit perpetrated on July 28, 2018 in the commune of Peñalolén.

At the end of the trial, the court considered that, beyond a reasonable doubt, that he was at his home with his son Maximiliano Ibáñez Medina, one year and five months at the time of the events, the woman took a knife and inflicted eight stabs on the little boy, causing cervical and thoracic trauma that caused his death.

Later, she caused herself cutting wounds, but was helped by her mother, who transferred them both to the Luis Tisné Hospital.

As was known at the time, moments before committing the crime, the woman posted a farewell message on Facebook: “Today Saturday July 28 my life with my youngest son ends. My life does not make sense. I am empty inside. I feel like nobody loves me and I don’t have a north or a south. I with my youngest son are leaving this world and I don’t want to leave him in this shitty life….‘.

“Impossible to be free from grief”

The court lowered Medina’s sentence by two degrees, “taking into account the mental state in which the sentenced was found at the time of committing the crime, that judging from the form of commission, the prior announcement about its occurrence, the addiction to drugs and alcohol, the family circumstances that he reports and the desire to end his life taking his son from it, can only be justified by acting without conscience on the edge of acting as an alienated person “.

“Clearly her mental health was unbalanced and the circumstances that surrounded her, meaningless to her, led her to such a dramatic decision, in which he believed his destiny would be another, “reasoned the court.

Kimberly was also found to be “exempt from prior criminal entries” and “was a hardworking woman, self-sacrificing, responsible and dedicated mother, loving her children and busy with them “.

The court pondered “without any doubt the extent of the harm caused,” and stated “that Beyond the horrible outcome of her youngest son, (the fact) makes her (the conviction) a victim for life, if the system manages to recover mentally from its imbalance, then impossible seems to be free from affliction“, says the sentence.
