The constitutional accusation against Jaime Mañalich will have its next chapter this Friday, when the former Minister of Health presents his charges and his defense before the commission of the Chamber of Deputies that analyzes the libel presented against him by deputies from the Frente Amplio, PC, PR and PPD.

Unlike other accusations in recent times, the defense of the former Secretary of State will be carried out, telematically, by Mañalich himself, as confirmed by the president of the instance, Deputy Iván Flores (DC), ensuring that It will give the former Secretary of State the same time as that granted to the accusing party, that is, 60 minutes.

The latter had been requested by the Government, who, in the voice of the Undersecretary of the Segpres, Juan José Ossa, requested that Mañalich “have enough time to expose.”

“I would like to make a suggestion, because as Executive we play a specific role in informing ourselves, given that the former minister Mañalich is no longer a minister, but that does not opt for a suggestion that I would like to make, taking advantage now that the importance of the transparency of publicity, and I would like to ask that tomorrow the former minister Mañalich has enough time to be able to present everything he deems pertinent and hopefully receive the maximum number of questions from those who are part of this commission and particularly from the accusers, “said the undersecretary.

“I emphasize this, because there is an investigative commission on this same issue, which was suspended many times, Minister Mañalich was not invited but until after the libel was imposed, so I believe that here we have followed a consecutive order that is not the more appropriate for the sake of transparency, ”he added.

Flores responded to this request, assuring that Mañalich “will have the same staff as what we have agreed on from the beginning.”

Advance the deadline

Although Mañalich had until October 5 – that is, next Monday – to present his discharges, he decided to advance the final deadline and do so this Friday.

This forced to modify the commission’s schedule, which has six days since the defense is exposed to pronounce its conclusion, so it decided to vote on October 9 and that would make it be seen in the Chamber on Tuesday the 13th of the same month.

“Although it is true we already had a program for a telematic session tomorrow with guests, in this case it will have to give the defense some time that will be exactly the same time as the accusing party (represented by Deputy Claudia Mix of Commons), “added Flores.

The former head of the Health portfolio is represented by the team of lawyers led by Gabriel Zaliasnik and made up of Jaime Winter and Dafne Guerra. The session, meanwhile, will take place this Friday under mixed modality (some face-to-face and others by Zoom), starting at 10:30 am.
