The Santiago Chamber of Commerce (CCS) reported this Tuesday that “Due to the health crisis in our country, it has been considered prudent to postpone the date of the CyberDay event, which is normally carried out in the month of May ”.
The CCS Electronic Commerce Committee noted that “In the circumstances we are experiencing, we believe that the health emergency forces us to think about other priorities that lie ahead of this event, since today the main point of interest is health of our collaborators and clients, in addition to continuing to serve people and their families in their most pressing needs that can be met remotely by electronic commerce. ”
The Committee also noted that “as it is an event of national scope, its level of massiveness requires optimal operational and logistical capacities, which, although they have been functioning properly during the pandemic, require full capacity to guarantee good levels of service, especially in deliveries, an aspect that is impacted today by the situation we are experiencing. “
The Committee noted that the date on which CyberDay 2020 will be held will be informed in due course, considering the importance it has for both SMEs in the sector and for consumers.
With respect to CyberMonday, which traditionally takes place in the last quarter of the year, the union confirmed its completion.
In the three days that the event was held last year, between May 27 and 29, The 371 e-commerce sites that participated together accumulated sales for a record US $ 258 million, 35% higher than those recorded the previous year.
According to estimates made by the CCS at the end of last year’s event, these figures would have allowed e-commerce to contribute around 4 percentage points to the growth of retail trade in May, and nearly half a point to the increase in Imacec.
In CyberDay 2019, the US $ 250 million that had been initially estimated was exceeded. In addition, the figure was not only higher than the US $ 210 million that was raised in the same event in 2018, but it was also above the US $ 233 million registered on Cyber Monday in October 2018. The first Cyber Day, held in 2014, recorded transactions for US $ 45 million.
In last year’s version, the participating sites received more than 100 million visits and more than 2 million transactions were carried out, a figure 55% higher than that registered in the 2018 event.
