During this Saturday a march for Rejection took place in Las Condes, instance that summoned more than 50 people established as a limit by the health authorities, which caused controversy in some sectors, from where the almost null intervention of the Carabineros was accused in contrast to another mobilization of Higher Level Nursing Technicians in Plaza Italia, where Special Forces arrived to disperse the protesters.

In this regard, the Minister of the Interior, Víctor Pérez, pointed out that “Carabineros is the one who has to evaluate what is the degree of danger, what is the degree of control, what is the degree that a certain march leads to disorders for have acted ”.

“We are always evaluating those criteria of the Chilean Police and therefore what happened this weekend is in the process of evaluation, but there is no doubt that the Police is that he determines when a (…) march will generate or it is generating disorders to act in a certain way, “he said.

In that line, he added that “If a peaceful demonstration, which is the one that we want to promote, which is the one that we really want to be installed, is not going to lead or is not leading to difficulties of public order, without a doubt these marches should not have any kind of difficulty”.

“Whoever is demonstrating does not change the vision of what the decision to maintain public order is,” he argued.

He also mentioned that always “police operations are evaluated. You listen to the version of the Carabineros and we are always looking for police operations to improve, be perfections (…) because I withdraw, the Government’s commitment is that there are peaceful demonstrations ”.

The position of the Carabineros

Meanwhile, the Carabineros came out to clarify the difference in criteria used during the demonstration of Higher Level Nursing Technicians (TENS) in Plaza Italia and in the Rejection march in Las Condes.

In the case of TENS, which ask to be included in the Health Code, they were dispersed by the uniformed police as they marched down the north road of the Alameda towards the west, arresting 8 people: 6 men and 2 women.

On the other hand, in the Rejection march, which began in the El Golf sector in Las Condes, marching towards Providencia, they were escorted by the uniformed men, registering three arrests for disorders and fights.

The Medical College and opposition parties questioned the difference in treatment of the Carabineros towards the TENS, compared to what happened on Apoquindo avenue.

So that from the police institution they clarified that the march through the Alameda was dispersed because it was carried out in a commune (Santiago) that is under quarantine on weekends, arresting 8 people for violating sanitary regulations.

On the march of the Rejection, this was carried out in Las Condes (in the Preparation stage), where there is no mobility restriction.
