Contagions increase 32% in the last 7 days: Four regions worry authorities | National

This Monday the health authorities delivered a new balance on the advance of the coronavirus in the country, an opportunity where 2,450 new cases were reported.

On this occasion, positivity reached 9.61%, the highest figure since July 30, when it reached 9.6%.

Regarding the new infections, 1,751 correspond to symptomatic people and 645 to people who do not have symptoms. In addition, 54 Positive PCR tests were recorded that were not reported.

The total number of people who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the country reaches 620,641. Of that total, 16,626 patients are in the active stage.

Regarding deaths, according to the information provided by the Department of Statistics and Health Information (DEIS), in the last 24 hours there were zero deaths from causes associated with COVID-19. The total number of deaths corresponds to 16,767 in the country.

To date, 787 people are hospitalized in Intensive Care Units (ICU), of which 618 are on mechanical ventilation support and 68 are in critical health. In relation to the Integrated Health Network, There are a total of 280 ventilators available for the patient who requires it, regardless of the region where they are.

Regarding the Laboratory Network and diagnostic capacity, yesterday the results of 25,497 PCR tests were reported, reaching a total of 6,603,470 tests analyzed nationwide to date.

Regarding the increase in cases, the Minister of Health, Enrique Paris, pointed out that “In the last seven days the increase has reached 32% nationwide (…) and this should attract our attention and concern all citizens of Chile without a doubt.”

“Some regions stand out in this increase, such as Arica, Antofagasta, Valparaíso and Los Lagos. The President has requested a session or a special meeting of the Undersecretary for Crime Prevention and the Undersecretary of Public Health with the mayors and seremis of these regions to implement special plans to try to obviously reduce viral spread, “he said.

He added that “based on the DEIS figures, it is concluded that one in four deaths in the Metropolitan region in 2020 was attributed to COVID-19.”

“With respect to 2019, and in 2020 at the national level, there is an increase in deaths of 15,700 people, that is, a 14% increase”he declared.

Regarding the deaths that were not reported, Paris indicated that it happened “for the same reason that happened at Christmas. (…) The death records come from the Civil Registry and the Civil Registry sends them to the DEIS, the DEIS matches the death certificate and the data on whether or not it has a positive PCR ”.
