The Constitution Commission approved unanimously and in general this day a draft constitutional reform that seeks to facilitate the participation of independents in the face of the eventual constituent convention that is formed in the event that in the plebiscite of October 25 the option I approve wins .
The initiative, presented by the independent Pepe Auth, and which had the signatures of opposition deputies and Evópoli, aims to favor the subscription of sponsorships and the declaration and registration of lists of independent candidates for the aforementioned constituent body.
The progress of the initiative was valued by the president of the Constitution Commission, Matías Walker (DC).
“We were able to unanimously approve this draft constitutional reform in the Constitution Commission, whose main author is Pepe Auth, but which I also had to sign together with a cross-sectional group of deputies from Evópoli, the Broad Front and the PS,” he said. Walker.
The parliamentarian explained that the reform project does two things: “first, lower the number of sponsorships, of signatures required of each independent candidacy, from 0.4% to 0.2%. And also, it establishes that the number of demandable per list of independent who want to add their vote, according to their programmatic affinity, is 0.5% instead of 1.5% as is currently provided according to the reform approved last year ”.
In this sense, the DC deputy also explained that perhaps the most relevant aspect of the initiative is that it “expressly allows the Servel to accept signature sponsorships electronically, with a unique Civil Registry key, to prevent independent persons from having to attend a I would notice in the middle of a pandemic ”.
Now, next week the Commission will begin to debate the initiative in particular, where it is expected to hear from various actors, such as representatives of the Servel itself.
