Constituent Unit will hold tomorrow Sunday primaries for mayors in 65 communes of the country, ahead of the elections next April.

From the block they said they hope that the process will develop smoothly despite the pandemic; and they ruled out eventual measurements for conventional constituents.

Despite having initially established conventional primaries in 85 communes of the country, tomorrow the Constituent Unit will define in 65 municipalities the candidates for mayors who will compete.

While it will be in the communes of La Reina, Pudahuel and Providencia in which the pact formed by parties of the former Concertación, Ciudadanos and the PRO will measure forces with the rest of the opposition, including the Frente Amplio.

A modification that occurred after a single candidate presented in some communes, making definition by primaries impossible, according to the president of the DC, Fuad Chahín.


Likewise, Chahín pointed out that among the key communes to dispute, for example, Valparaiso, led by the former member of Social Convergence, Jorge Sharp; Providencia and La Reina, currently in the hands of UDI officials.

The helmsman of the Socialist Party, the senator Alvaro Elizalde, emphasized in the Constituent Unit’s commitment to democratic processes.

The president of the PPD, Heraldo MuñozMeanwhile, he said he expected the primaries to develop without major problems, despite the context of the pandemic.

In addition, according to sources from La Radio, although in the Constituent Unit they considered the possibility of promoting primaries for constituents, they find it difficult to carry them out considering that the registration of the candidacies ends on January 11.
