Deputy Thomas Hirsch (Humanist Action) he officiated at the Ministries of the Interior, Defense and the General Secretariat of Government (SegeGob); to the Carabineros and the Comptroller General of the Republic in the case of a journalist who was arrested this Friday while covering the protests in Santiago.
The legislator and former presidential candidate denounced that Claudia aranda, Chilean correspondent for the news agency Pressenza, “she was detained without any justification whatsoever.”
Aranda’s arrest occurred this afternoon in the vicinity of the Forest park, a few blocks from Plaza Baquedano, where protesters gathered again in a meeting that was characterized by clashes with security forces.
She was then taken to the Third Police Station in Santiago, where she remains detained.
“Five hours have passed since they arrested me and I still don’t know why they arrested me. I asked them why and they didn’t want to tell me. The only thing a sergeant said to me at the time, dying of laughter, was: ‘ we are going to find a criminal charge, Claudita. ” I also received threats, teasing and mistreatment“said the reporter in a video that she recorded herself and that was shared by Hirsch on her Twitter account.

“While Claudia asked the police for authorization, since they did not have it, they simply took it and, dragging her, they took her into custody, without explaining the reason, knowing that she is a journalist, attacking her, threatening her, telling her that they were going to find some reason to accuse her“, affirmed the parliamentarian.
“This is a total arbitrariness“, he remarked.
In a four-point official, the humanist deputy asked the government and police authorities to report the “well-founded reasons for the arrest” of the journalist; the “reasons why the identity check was carried out and the evidence in view to initiate the procedure under article 85 of the Code of Criminal Procedure “; and “if the identity control conforms to the protocols established by the institution in order to safeguard the rights of the controlled, especially the right to physical integrity and publicity of the acts carried out by the authority, such as the communication of the reason for the procedure and the name of the agent who performs it. “
Finally, Hirsch demanded clarify “if it is government policy to arrest accredited journalists in demonstrations when there is no indication of simple crimes, crimes or misdemeanors, and, if the answer is negative, the reasons why a person with that quality was taken into custody and without any indication of the commission of a crime, crime or misdemeanor. “
In turn, Hirsch requested that “a administrative summary for breaches of the law and institutional protocols to carry out the identity control established in article 85 of the Criminal Procedure Code, as well as for the concealment of the identities of the police officers who carried it out “.
