This Monday, in a new session of the investigative commission for the agreement signed between the Ministry of Health and Espacio Riesco, used as a healthcare facility in the framework of the Covid-19 pandemic, Comptroller Jorge Bermúdez he delved into the arguments why his institution declared one of the contracts illegal.

“Apparently they would be paying, in two contracts, both in the lease and in the provision of services, the same benefits”, said the highest authority of the supervisory body before the special instance of the Chamber of Deputies and Deputies, recorded Third.

“The Comptroller’s Office has the lease contract in view and it turns out that, in that contract, you are already paying for some things that seem to be repeated here in this contract“, he indicated.

Likewise, Bermúdez explained that Doubts arise because “sufficient information is not provided to support the values assigned to the different benefits which are later detailed in the same contract “, and that the supervisory body also objected in the point 3 the automatic extension established in the agreement itself.

In relation to the contracts that the entity was right, the comptroller explained that the “benefits of hospital facilities were compared with those obligations that were in the lease, which had not passed through the Comptroller’s Office.”

“That is something that the Health Service has yet to clarify. It is supposed to clarify it.”, he indicated.

“On the one hand, the contract says that the property must be in a situation that serves for the operation of the hospital complex, and then the service provision contract says that you have to carry out a series of installations and maintenance of those facilities for the hospital complex. So, the truth is there is a general statement and then there are certain specific benefits that are detailed in the annex “, he deepened.

At this point, the comptroller explained that the observations made on the specific benefits have to do with “explain how these benefits are not assumed with those that are already in the lease” and “why this price is paid for these benefits.”

“We are not saying that you cannot pay a little more, what we are saying is clarify how did you get to these prices you’re paying, to get to that $ 1.6 billion level “he added.

Along the same lines, he explained that “with respect to the lease, what is reached is a contract of a certain value per square meter used. That is what we have to check now and that is how many meters were actually used.”
