This journey the Comptroller General of the Republic, Jorge Bermudez, participated the Investigative Commission of the Chamber of Deputies that analyzes the registry of deaths from coronavirus in the country.
Before the members of the instance, the authority presented the two known audits to date about the differences between the deceased reported by the Department of Statistics and Health Information (Deis) and two balance sheets of the Minsal, as well as the discrepancy regarding the number of infected persons reported by the Epivigila system.
In this sense, Bermúdez announced that 278 audits related to Covid-19 are currently underway in different public bodies: 2 have to do with the registry and epidemiological statistics; 19 with the purchase of inputs, goods and services; 139 relating to the virus containment infrastructure; while 118 are aimed at social benefits (delivery of food baskets, vouchers, temporary permits, etc.).
The comptroller also explained that audits are underway regarding the traceability system and also the Public Health System (ISP). While they are planning and gathering information to do the same with the Epivigila system.
Regarding the two summary investigations already concluded and reported by the agency, Bermúdez indicated that there are still differences regarding the number of infected, but not regarding those who died from Covid-19.
“Today the Comptroller’s Office with the Deis does not have a difference from the point of view of the deceased, we have no differences regarding the number. The Deis reports according to the parameters that we thought were concrete according to the audit and with the adjustments that were made throughout the work of the Deis himself. Now, that this figure is marked with an asterisk as a suspect and then not included every day, but at the end of each week in the epidemiological report, it is the authority’s decision ”, He said.
To reiterate that “From the point of view of the deceased, with the Deis the information is totally square, but from the point of view of the infected there are still differences, but I cannot explain why it still exists.”
Bermúdez, on the other hand, delved into the management of the pandemic at a global level, where he assured that “There is no country that has really been prepared to face this pandemic. Even countries that one could look at as an example of this type of situation, which are more developed, have not done better than less developed countries (…). Nor is it a mystery that the figures have been questioned in many places “, he concluded.
In his speech, Bermúdez also alluded to the latest questions received regarding the agency’s powers; this as a result of administrative summary against seven generals of the Carabineros for their role in the social crisis.
