On Monday, a gunman killed at least ten people in a supermarket in Colorado (USA), according to local police.
It is the last incident recorded in this state in the western United States, scene in the past of two of the most massive shootings in the country.
The attacker is in custody and is injuredconfirmed Michael Dougherty, the district attorney for the Boulder County district, located about 30 miles northwest of Denver, Colorado’s capital.
Among the dead is 51-year-old police officer Eric Talley., which was the first to respond to the urgency unleashed at the King Soopers supermarket in Boulder, according to local police chief Maris Herold.
“We know of ten killed at the scene, including one of our Boulder agents. Agent Tally responded to the scene – he was the first to arrive – and was fatally shot “Herold explained.
Images broadcast live during the operation had shown a man dressed only in sports shorts and stained with blood being escorted out of the store by officers.
The detained suspect is the only person with “serious injuries at this point, ”said police commander Kerry Yamaguchi, who also did not want to confirm whether the man in the video was the attacker, or what his motivation would be.
United States President Joe Biden, who called on Congress last month to enact “common sense” reforms to gun law, has been informed of the shootingWhite House press secretary Jen Psaki tweeted.
The president has been briefed on the shooting in Colorado and his team will keep you updated as news unfolds.

The leader of the Democrats in the Senate, Chuck Schumer, stated that the upper house “must and will move forward on legislation to help control the epidemic and gun violence ”.
“My heart breaks watching this unspeakable incident occur in our Boulder community,” said Colorado Governor Jared Polis, who called the event a “Meaningless tragedy”.
“Words cannot do justice to the tragedy that befell this afternoon,” Boulder Mayor Sam Weaver tweeted on his side.
“We ran”
Police responded to calls reporting shooting in the area and the possible presence of a person with a rifle, around 2:30 p.m. local time, Herold said.
Witnesses who were inside the store at the time of the shooting said they heard multiple gunshots before running to the entrance.
“They almost killed me for going to buy a soda and a bag of potatoes”Ryan Borowski, who was in the store, told CNN when he heard at least eight shots and managed to escape.
“It was amazing that everyone helped each other and that our instincts were similar and we ran… I don’t know why other people didn’t and I’m very sorry they didn’t react. I wish this had not happened ”, he said.
Unverified images previously broadcast live by a witness showed at least three people lying face down on the ground both inside and outside the store, before multiple shots were heard.
Dozens of armored vehicles, ambulances and armed personnel, including agents of the FBI and SWAT, were deployed to the scene.
Later, customers who had been herded safely out of the store remained seated and covered in blankets, talking to emergency services in the snow-covered parking lot.
“The actions of the police officers were heroic”Herold said, adding that “the very complex investigation” will take at least five days to complete.
“Our hearts are broken by this senseless act of violence,” said King Soopers spokeswoman Kelli McGannon, also praising the “emergency workers who responded so bravely to these acts of violence.”
Tragedies in Colorado
This shooting comes days after the northern country was rocked by another attack on several Asian massage parlors in the southeastern state of Georgia, which left eight dead.
Colorado, on his side, was already the scene of two of the more serious mass shootings of American history.
In 1999, two teenagers killed 12 classmates and a teacher at the high school in Columbine before committing suicide.
Then, in 2012, a heavily armed man broke into in a theater that was showing a Batman movie in Aurora, Colorado, killing 12 people.
The assailant is now serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
Biden said last month that he wanted Congress to pass laws that require Background checks for all gun sales and that they prohibit those of assault and of high capacity in stores.
“This administration will not wait for the next mass shooting to answer that call,” said the president.
This Monday, Democratic Senator from Colorado, Michael Bennet, urged Americans “to revisit a national conversation on gun violence that is not reduced to the partisan.”
