The victory against Peñarol was only a momentary relief. Reality was seen again this Wednesday in Curitiba, where Colo Colo lost 2-0 to Athletico Paranaense. Without brand, without associated game, without individualities and with the insecurity of its goalkeeper, Gualberto Jara’s painting disappointed again, now in the Copa Libertadores. As if the National Tournament was not enough, Colo Colo gets used to leaving a strange and disconnected image in each competition that participates.
The first half reflected that face: that of a Colo Colo without reaction. Athletico Paranaense proved in less than 180 seconds that he would be far superior to the Chilean cast. He came once, and then he did not tire of generating danger in the rival goal. Pablo Mouche’s injury when only four minutes had been played was another blow for a puzzled Gualberto Jara. The DT opted for Leonardo Valencia, who did not have many chances either.
An own goal by Felipe Campos in the seventh minute confirmed the signs of the start. Christian threw a corner at Pedro Henrique, but it was the former Palestinian who sent the ball into the back of the goal. Brayan Cortés had no reaction in his small area. And the worst thing is that seven minutes later, the goalkeeper was once again the protagonist: he saved a powerful shot from Fabinho, but left the rebound with which Gabriel Suazo added the second own goal of the night.
Paranaense continued his dominance until the last minute of the first half. The Brazilian team only stepped back their lines in some moments to wait for the backlash. But in any case, Colo Colo did not know how to connect. The shots of Marcos Bolados and Suazo, the aggressiveness of Juan Manuel Insaurralde and the effort of Javier Parraguez, could change history. Unlike, Paranaense came very close to scoring the third with a header from Pedrinho.
Gualberto Jara tested the complement with Carlos Carmona and Brayan Vejar. The first one contributed with the mark that was missing in all the first half, and the second tried to create danger from the sides. The entry of Bryan Soto by the injured Óscar Opazo collaborated in the same vein as Carmona. But it is also true that there was another Paranaense in the complement. A team that decreased its intensity and reflected fatigue in the end. Only in that scenario, Colo Colo was able to approach Santos’s goal with a shot from Suazo and a shot from afar by Felipe Campos.
The agony approach only served to end with dignity, because it was too late to change the outcome. Paranaense held out as best he could and Colo Colo, ineffective as always, was left with the desire to score a goal. Now he will return to Chile with a new defeat, with more injuries and with a crisis that seems endless. The Brazilian team, on the other hand, is consolidated in the leadership of the group in the Copa Libertadores.
