The high participation in the process to renew the board of the Medical College, for the period 2020-2023, was once again the trend after the third day of voting, in which the current president of the union continues to lead the preferences. At 1:00 p.m. today, 50% of the electoral roll had already voted, reaching 13,748 votes, a historical fact that already exceeds the total number of votes for the 2017 election.
“We continue to be very happy and happy for an election that has really been historic in terms of participation. The 50% of colleagues authorized to vote who have already voted, which is obviously a historic participation, remaining two days, ”highlighted Dr. Roberto Estay, president of the Department of Health Policies and Studies of the union and candidate for national councilor.
Compared to previous elections, the board of directors led by Izkia Siches has managed to increase the advantage over its contenders by more than 600 votes, “very good news” in the opinion of Dr. Estay.
But beyond the result, the professional assured that “what we want to highlight the most is a Medical College that is very much alive with its participation instances and we hope that, regardless of who the winner is, Colmed will continue to be very influential and very alive internally. in its decisions as it is being shown in this electoral process ”.
After the third day of voting, the official results continued to show in favor of Siches. List A scored 51.45% with 7670 votes and List B 47.83% with 7130 votes. Tomorrow, Sunday, at 6:00 p.m. the voting ends.
The internal elections in the Medical College began last Thursday and will last until Sunday. There are about 30 thousand doctors authorized to vote, who can do so online between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
With a link to the page of the Medical College, the UDI deputy and member of the Health Commission Sergio Gahona invited by WhatsApp to vote for Dr. Acuña to “rescue” the union from “the hands of the Broad Front.”
Through a message, the parliamentarian said: “If you know a doctor tell him to vote and thus we will rescue the Medical College from the hands of the Broad Front to something non-ideological professional.
“Unhealthy and undemocratic that a parliamentarian of the Chamber of Deputies, who is not a doctor, is carrying out interventionism in the elections of the Medical College,” questioned Dr. Nicolás López, attorney for List A in La Serena (area of the UDI deputy ).
“The deputy is also a member of the Health Commission, so he clearly has a conflict of interest. I would hope that the parliamentarians would be more concerned to echo the technical proposals that the College has raised in matters of pandemic and also care of our colleagues, rather than making calls to vote and intervening in elections with their partisan interests, “added the health professional.
Dr. Estay also condemned the attitude of Deputy Gahona and regretted his attempt to “intervene” in the Colmed elections. “This type of obviously political-partisan interventions do not help what we are looking for; a strong union that is having a record turnout in their elections,” he lashed out.
“We stayed with the participation and we left behind this regrettable episode of a deputy trying to intervene in favor of Dr. Acuña,” the doctor concluded.
