Last Friday the death by COVID-19 of the doctor was announced Carol ortiz, who served as the Head of the Critical Patients Unit (UPC) of the Eloísa Díaz Hospital in La Florida.

With 15 years of service, this 2020 the official had the biggest challenge in her career: leading the health team that fought the COVID-19 pandemic. The young woman came to take care of 24 patients, when the disease did not give up in the country.

Last Wednesday, Ortiz entered the emergency room of the German Clinic in the middle of his vacation. There it was necessary to intubate her and two days later died from intracerebral hemorrhage.

Honesty, empathy, generosity, loyalty, affability, courage and solidarity are some of the qualities that the health facility used to describe the doctor, whose companions remember her fondly.

“Neither did she ever think how much love he felt for her. I had never seen a doctor cry because a patient died. If you had to get a medicine or a machine, she was always“, he pointed Iris Yanez, tens and Ortiz’s partner in the hospital.

Yáñez confirmed that there is discouragement among officials after learning of the death of the head of the UPC. “It’s going to cost us to recover. When we found out (of his passing), that turn was horrible. You were in the corners crying to anyone, because it affected us all“, He detailed.

A huge caravan with family and friends accompanied Carol this Saturday from the German Clinic -precinct where he died- until Trail Park in Maipú. The front of the hospital is full of messages from those who mourn his sudden departure.
