“Close contacts can telework”: the sayings of Undersecretary Daza that generated controversy in networks

“Close contacts can telework. It is not about sick people and it is done by agreement between employer and worker,” said the Undersecretary of Public Health, Paula Daza, in conversation with 24 Hours, when she explained the circumstances of the President’s preventive quarantine Sebastián Piñera and the first lady Cecilia Morel. Daza’s sayings did not take long to generate controversy.

The controversy arises from the fact that the same Ministry of Health, on the Salud Responde site, specifies that close contacts are entitled to a medical license. “It will correspond to the issuance of a medical license for close contacts, determined solely and exclusively by the Health SEREMI of your region, for a maximum of 14 days, which may be issued remotely, if it is an electronic medical license”, mentioned the Minsal.

The undersecretary, in conversation with 24 Horas, only highlighted the cases in which teleworking was impossible. “They have the right to a medical license, and this is determined by the regulations. Today we have a medical license for the confirmed case, the suspected case and also for close contacts,” explained Daza.

Given the statements of the health authority, the president Santiago Regional Council of the Medical College of Chile, specified more information about the close contacts. “Close contacts do NOT have to take PCR, as this can be negative due to low viral load and then turn positive. Close contacts must quarantine for 14 days from contact,” Crispi explained on Twitter.
