Clogging in the southern exit of Santiago marks the start of the sanitary cord in RM and Gran Concepción for a long weekend

A “taco” of about eight kilometers on Route 5 South was the way in which the implementation of the sanitary cord established by the government in the Metropolitan Region and Greater Concepción debuted this Thursday, to restrict traffic to and from those locations during the long weekend for the May 1 holiday.

The measure was already implemented at Easter and above all, it seeks to discourage travel to tourist destinations, as well as trips to second homes from areas with a high number of cases.

The blockage, in any case, was not only due to the volume of vehicle traffic, but to the fact that Police officers are also carrying out checks to check that those who are transiting along the roads and the main exit points have the relevant authorizations.

If you don’t have them, those who circulate along the routes risk being returned to their homes without being able to go through the cord to its eventual final destination.

Sanitary cords They began to operate from 6:00 pm today and will be in effect until Sunday night.

It is not the only measure that will be implemented on this day. At 10 p.m. part of the communes of La Pintana and San Ramón will enter quarantine, the entire Central Station and Independencia – all municipalities in the Metropolitan Region – and the urban areas of Angol and Victoria, in La Araucanía.

Likewise, quarantine will cease to apply in the communes of Temuco and Osorno, so that from 5am this Friday -after the curfew ends- its inhabitants will be able to move freely in both cities.
