The former technical director of Colo Colo and the Chilean team, Claudio Borghi, referred to friendship and experiences that he had with Diego Maradona, pointing out that the Argentine star “never changed in his essence as a person.”
In dialogue with The Mercury, the multi-champion with the “Albos” highlighted that: “Diego (Maradona) was always the same, its essence never changed. He was someone simple and consistent with what he felt“.
“Those of us who knew him as a child were fortunate to see how he was quite a normal guy with people and with oneself as well,” he remarked.
Regarding the unfortunate outcome that Maradona had, Borghi mentioned that: “One knew that something could happen to him, especially after this complex operation he had, but one always hoped that it would come out one more time later, and this time it did not happen, unfortunately for a man who, like everyone else, had flaws, but many virtues“.
“The social struggle was what he represented, since childhood, and linked him to the people, who felt reflected in him. That was also his way of life, “he added.
Finally, Borghi referred to his preference over the figures of Maradona and Pelé, saying that: “Diego had a unique career. He was world champion with a team that was consolidated along the way largely thanks to him. Then, in 1990, he again led his country to a world final with a team of few figures, and in Napoli he also raised several titles with a less than brilliant team “.
