The Chinese embassy repudiated this Tuesday that the son of the Brazilian president, Jair Bolsonaro, the deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro, defended a proposal by the United States to promote 5G technology “without spying from China”, warning of possible “negative consequences” in the bilateral relationship.
The delegation issued a statement a day after Deputy Bolsonaro published a series of tweets in which he stated: “Brazil supports the US project for 5G and moves away from Chinese technology”.
In the message, which was deleted by the deputy, he added that “the government of @JairBolsonaro declared support for Clean Newtork, launched by the government of @relaDonald Trump creating a global alliance for a safe 5G, without spying from China.” That agreement was signed at the beginning of this month.
In another tweet, the legislator referred to entities “aggressive and enemies of freedom”, using the Communist Party of China as an example.
The delegation of China, Brazil’s first commercial partner, considered that the “unfounded” statements lend themselves to opinions of a United States that, among other things, seeks to “slander” his country and harm Chinese companies like Huawei, which aspires to enter the Brazilian 5G market.
“This is totally unacceptable for the Chinese side and we express strong dissatisfaction and vehement repudiation of this behavior,” said the embassy, adding that it had already done “formal management” of the situation through diplomatic channels.
In the past, Eduardo Bolsonaro was the cause of strong bilateral diplomatic friction, in particular by a tweet in which he described the new coronavirus as “a Chinese virus”, echoing Trump’s sayings, with whom the Brazilian president always sought to strengthen alliances.
The embassy recalled that on other occasions the deputy and “other personalities” made “infamous” statements that “undermine” the relationship between the two nations.
“We urge these personalities to stop following the rhetoric of the American extreme right (…) Otherwise, they will bear the negative consequences of bearing the historical responsibility of disturbing the normality of the China-Brazil alliance.”
Current president of the foreign relations commission of the Chamber of Deputies, Eduardo Bolsonaro came to be considered as a possible Brazilian ambassador to the United States.
