Francisco Meneghini get your voice out. After his departure from Audax Italiano earlier this month, the 32-year-old coach catches up with the latest news from the Chilean soccer, in exclusive dialogue with The Redgoleta de Redgol.
Known as Paqui, he worked in three heats with the Chilean team, on the way to South Africa 2010 with Marcelo Bielsa, and then to Brazil 2014 and Russia 2018 with Jorge Sampaoli. And look closely at a Red without a confirmed coach for 2021.
“Changing the coach during the qualifying rounds is not ideal. But I don’t know the details and I hope it will be resolved soon for the good of the national team. There is an America’s Cup and a tie to play, and this team can be up to the task,” he assures the trans-Andean.
On the horizon the name of Sebastian Beccacece, Sampaoli’s second at La Roja and who recently announced his departure from Racing de Argentina. Meneghini believes that the former squire of Don Sampa has the merits to reach La Roja.
“He has significant experience working with this same team. Not exactly the entire squad, but he knows the players I mentioned earlier. I think he is fully prepared to train in this context,” warns the former Audax and La Calera.
“He is a coach who stands out for something, it is because of this ability to prepare the matches, even in a short time. I don’t know if he will want it, I don’t know if they want him to be, but why not,” the Argentine sentenced.
“Beccacece had a lot of impact on the day to day”
Francisco Meneghini reviews how Beccacece’s work was while he was part of the Sampaoli coaching staff: “With Jorge they put together a very interesting duo. Jorge was always at the helm, guided and gave the guidelines, but Seba also had a great ability to execute”.
That can contribute in a selection context. “He had a lot of impact on the day-to-day, great relationship with the players so I think that, in the event that the possibility arises, which I insist I do not know if it will happen or not, I think it could be a plus” he adds.
“I think that the experience, having been in a tie, getting to know the players, getting to know the Chilean media, which is no less … I think it gives them the possibility that, if the opportunity presents itself, it could be,” he underlines Paqui.
The definition of the new coach of the Chilean team enters at key times, since the ANFP leadership has indicated that there is a deadline until this Thursday for the Colombian to negotiate his arrival at the national team.
“There is an advantage that Chile can take advantage of”
According to Francisco Meneghini, there has been undeniable progress in the selection. “I think important players have appeared, in defense. The game that the central defenders played against Uruguay was a very high-quality game, in which they made their presence felt,” he highlights.
Likewise, he values that for La Roja there are “important appearances in the middle, the consolidation of (Erick) Pulgar, the appearances in the offensive phase.”
“I think that in this atypical context of a pandemic, in which it is very likely that the team will lose players due to positive cases of covid, as has happened, there is a plus for Chile, of having players who guarantee a performance,” he reflects.
Here the historical ones come into play: “Vidal guarantees performance. Bravo, Isla, Medel, Aránguiz, Alexis, the same. We know that when they are on the court they have a floor and they do not go down from there. And in this atypical and highly irregular context, it is an advantage that Chile can take advantage of. “
Chile will return to action at the end of March, when you receive Paraguay and visit Ecuador for the fifth and sixth dates of the South American Qualifiers for the Qatar World Cup 2022.
