This Thursday, the Ministry of Health, Enrique Paris, delivered a new balance of figures related to the covid-19 pandemic that affects Chile, accounting for the highest level of new cases since July 10.

In this sense, the health authority confirmed 3,022 new infections, 109 new deaths, bringing to a total of 608,973 infections since the pandemic began and reaching a total of 16,608 deaths as a result of the virus.

Regarding the figures, the Bío Bío again leads in new daily cases in regions, with 612 new infections. Further back are Los Lagos (267), Valparaíso (225), Araucanía (222) and El Maule (214).

Meanwhile, the Metropolitan region maintains the leadership of new COVID-19 cases nationwide, registering 792 new infections in the last 24 hours. In this way, the MRI marked its highest figure in 153 days (5 months), since July 31 (825 cases that day), while Bío Bío shot up to its highest daily level since the start of the pandemic.

With these unfortunate figures, the highest point of new cases in 174 days was marked, precisely on July 10, on which day 3,058 cases were registered. A similar situation occurs with the number of daily deaths recorded this day: the highest reported since September 24 (124 deaths that day), 98 days ago (3 months and 7 days).

Although the number is significant in itself, it should be noted that it considers the delay in registrations that occurred during the Christmas weekend, since last Monday 0 deaths were reported due to lack of notification.

Likewise, the number of active cases registered this Thursday (14,638) is the highest in 81 days (2 months and 20 days), since October 11 (14,701 that day).

Given the increase in cases in recent weeks and ahead of the New Year’s celebration, Minister Enrique Paris made a call to continue taking self-care measures. “Today we say goodbye to a year that has been hard for everyone and the call is that we do it as a family, in small groups, always maintaining hand washing, the use of a mask and physical distancing. Making this effort could allow us to start a better 2021 ”, he assured.
