Bayer Leverkusen announced this Friday that the Chilean international Charles Aránguiz signed an extension to his contract, so he will be linked to the club until 2023.
Aránguiz, 31, has played more than 100 Bundesliga games since signing in 2015 from Internacional de Porto Alegre. His current contract ended in June.
“We have had good conversations with Charles in the past few weeks, whose desire to stay was what we wanted. Charles is a very important player in our team ”, noted sports director Rudi Voeller.
“The fact that once again we have opted for a long-distance contract shows the total conviction that all those involved trust each other,” added the former scorer.
Leverkusen was fifth in the Bundesliga when the competition was suspended in mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Recall that during the hiatus from the competition, clubs like Bayern Munich and Inter Milan approached the ‘Prince’ knowing that their contract expired. However, Aránguiz opted for his fidelity and regularity.
Thus, Aránguiz returns his hand to the institution that helped him after suffering one of the biggest injuries of his career as soon as he arrived in Germany: the fracture of the Achilles tendon.
