A load with thousands of units of counterfeit technological devices, such as battery chargers, wireless headphones and high-end USB cables, and another shipment with imitations of well-known brand perfumes was seized by inspectors of the Valparaíso Customs Service.

Both shipments came from China and were destined for informal trade in that city and the capital.

The interceptions consist of 51,660 units of counterfeit perfumes, whose outer packaging and bottles accurately imitated popular fragrances, with names very similar to the originals. For example, the ingenuity of the falksifiers made them call “Lagost” (by Lacoste), “1 Billion” (by 1 Million by Paco Rabanne) and “Boos” (by Boss, by Hugo Boss), among other brands.

Adulterated products are valued at a sum greater than 200 million pesos.

In addition to seizing all the merchandise for infringement of the Industrial and Intellectual Property Law, the legal firms representing the affected brands were informed.

In this way, the brands Chanel, Lacoste, Hugo Boss, Christian Dior, Ferrari, Bulgari, Carolina Herrera, Paco Rabanne and Calvin Klein were part of the legal actions.

From fake perfumes to electronic products

In the second finding, the intelligence work of the Risk Analysis Unit of that Customs determined to select the container for the physical inspection.

At the opening, a total of 1,183 boxes were found, with counterfeit technological objects, such as USB cables, chargers and cell phone batteries, as well as protective films for brands such as Samsung, LG, Apple and Huawei.

Among the boxes there were also 24,000 units of Apple and Samsung wireless headphones. The cargo was valued at more than $ 104 million pesos.

The Regional Director of the Valparaíso Customs, Roberto Fernández, indicated that “in both procedures the success of the seizure lies in the experience of the officials who, based on the analysis work, are capable of detecting in advance those maritime cargoes where they can be configured smuggling offenses “.

The authority added that “it is a daily job, which requires constancy and permanent training to update the knowledge of counterfeiting techniques.”
