Moments ago, the Chamber of Deputies and Deputies rejected the project that sought a reduction in the number of parliamentarians in Congress.

The initiative presented by congressmen from Chile Vamos aimed to reduce deputies from 155 to 120, and senators from 50 to 40.

However, it did not reach the required quorum of 93 (that is, 3/5), as it received 78 votes in favor, 67 against and 7 abstentions.

As this is a parliamentary motion, the draft constitutional reform will be archived.

Prior to voting, Chile Vamos announced that if the initiative was rejected, they would present a new one with similar characteristics in its main idea.

During the discussion, the intention was raised to reject it in order for the parliamentary reduction to be debated by the Constitutional Convention.
