A few hours after the end of the competition, the organization corrected the results of the stage, giving as the winner the American Austin Jones and the Brazilian Gustavo Gugelmin, with 3 hours 44 minutes, who were escorted by the Chileans Francisco Chaleco López and Juan Pablo Latrach to 14 seconds. Third were the Brazilians Reinaldo Varela and Maykel Justo at 32 seconds. With these new calculations, the leader of the race was Jones-Gugelmin with 3 hours 50 minutesn43 seconds. He is escorted by López-Latrach at 22 seconds and Varela-Justo at 36 seconds.
The national team had a difficult day to finish the race of 623 total kilometers, because in the 277-km special he punctured twice, running out of spare tires 155 kilometers from the finish, so he had to be extremely careful on a very stony and with rocks.
“We worried about Juan Pablo (Latrach) after breaking two tires, because we were left without spare parts. The problem was that there were areas with very sharp stones, a lot of dust, dirt and mountains. So we had to take care and be constant where we could so as not to risk. We had to concentrate on not hitting any stone until we were able to cross the finish line for the day, ”Chaleco López said very satisfied with his second place in SSV.
In the Light Vehicles category, where the SSV categories (T4 class) and the more powerful Buggy prototypes (T3 class) are mixed, López-Latrach placed third, 2 minutes 27 seconds behind the general leader, the Spanish Cristina Gutiérrez (Team USA).
