The plenary session of Central Committee of the Socialist Party issued a statement in which they addressed future electoral challenges and rejected the project promoted by the government and that eliminates existing inabilities for popularly elected positions.
The document starts by stating that “the triumph, in the plebiscite of October 25, of the options Approve and Constitutional Convention (100% elected by the citizens) it is the primary task for the socialists “. And they added that “We have turned all our strength towards a campaign based on ideas and convictions that confront the campaign of terror and disinformation.”
In this sense and “in line with the new time that is inaugurated with the constituent process, The Central Committee of the PS rejects the bill that seeks to eliminate existing inabilities for popularly elected positions, promoted by the Government, since its approval would be inconsistent with the spirit of change expressed in the country since October 18, 2019 ”.
On future electoral challenges, the Socialist Central Committee called for the “unity” of the opposition.
“The Socialist Party reaffirms its unitary vocation, so that the progressive and democratic forces of the opposition, without exclusions, become an alternative government for Chile. Unity is the only possible way to displace those who govern today and project a horizon of profound transformations for the country. It is not enough to say that we are opposition, we must constitute an alternative ”.
Finally, the Socialists indicated that “We call on all social and political opposition forces to commit themselves in fact to unity. Those who do not contribute to this central purpose will have paved the way for the continuity of the neoliberal policies that have caused so much damage, and they must assume their responsibility before the country.
To conclude that “We socialists will continue to fight for the realization of binding primaries of the entire opposition to define the leaderships that will confront Piñerismo in the electoral events of 2021”.
