A fire began to register in the San Francisco de Borja Church in Santiago this Sunday afternoon, in the middle of demonstrations in the vicinity of Plaza Baquedano in the commemoration of 18-O.
The church had been looted moments before, where protesters took objects from the place and used them to set up barricades in the area, the Carabineros indicated.
Cameras showed that a group of individuals had opened the back of the church, from where they took out religious figures and other objects, which were destroyed and used to learn barricades.
According to the uniformed police, at least five people have been arrested for these events, of which one was arrested inside the Church and four in the vicinity.
Due to the fire, two fire companies went to the place to control the emergency, where they have found it difficult to enter due to barricades in the sector.
Aerial images have shown that the smoke from the fire is visible at great distances from the church in question.
