A carabinero who was infiltrated in the Lo Hermida population, Peñalolén, was discovered by the neighbors because some time ago he had starred in a reality television program that, paradoxically, was completely distant from his police work.

A report from Cyprus relates that, in mid-May, under the pseudonym “Giovany Arévalo Álvarez” began to approach a social organization, through a Facebook profile called “Charlie Charlie”. Then he went on to communicate by chat, asking to meet with leaders to help them; And in parallel, he got a tattoo with a neighbor in the sector, whom he contacted on Instagram.

He said that he had been in the “first line” of Antofagasta, and affirmed that he wanted to confront “with the pacos” and what was he doing?detonation“In fact, one of his boldest plans was to carry out a surprise attack on the Lo Hermida sub-police station, which was recorded in an audio that he sent to a neighbor. “You have to burn them”he even said once.

ALIBITIES OVERLOOKED BY A TELEVISION PROMOTION

There were several factors that began to raise doubts about his person: first, his insistence on urging neighbors to participate in confrontations with the Carabineros. “The main thing is to strengthen ourselves as an organization, and build a good job in the territory,” they responded.

He also participated in common pots and aid to households affected by unemployment, in the framework of the pandemic, and even deposited money to finance social assistance, with some deposits – from a RUT account of BancoEstado – of between 25 thousand and 30 thousand pesos. “I always had money”, do neighbors count Cyprus.

Suspicions increased because I had no friends or acquaintances in the sector, and had arrived at the place after contacting a tattoo artist through social networks; in another episode, a member of the organization was alerted by a neighbor because “Giovany” had attended a meeting to coordinate the anniversary of the town and They saw him taking photos of the license plates of the cars of those who were; On another occasion, in a discussion about the social crisis, his efforts to get the phone numbers of the people he spoke with were evident.

On one occasion they asked for his identity card and on another they checked his cell phone, which he said was new, where “he had very precise contacts and photos of demonstrations, but all very recent,” recall neighbors.

At first, the agent took his suspicions with humor, but then he expressed his annoyance and to explain why he sometimes went to meetings of the organization for one week, but then disappeared the next two, he excused himself with the fact that he worked for construction contractors and many times he had to leave Santiago.

But his alibis, from his false identity, through his alleged participation in protests as “front line”, to his alleged work, collapsed for a medical emergency: a young woman who participated in the common pots attended a medical center in September, and on the TV in the waiting room he saw that Channel 13 promoted the repetition of a chapter of the program “Against the wind and tide” that had emitted a year ago.

There the young woman noticed that “Giovany” appeared, with another name -the real one- and with the uniform of the Carabineros, and with a different appearance: he had short hair and not the braids with which he infiltrated the social organization; Even in his new role, he sported blue braids, a mustache, a padlock beard, a hoop with an expansion in his ear and, after June, a tattoo on his arm alluding to social protests.

Of course, the chapter was never repeated, because Carabineros asked the private signal not to broadcast it again, as it verified Cyprus.

The Facebook profile with which he approached the organization was deleted after Ciper contacted the Carabineros.

COVERED IN THE LAW OF INTELLIGENCE

There is a RUT and an identity card associated with “Giovany Arévalo Álvarez”, but it is a fictitious name used by a Second Corporal of the Carabineros. The true identity was confirmed by Cyprus, that he also consulted the Carabineros about the activities carried out by the agent, at least until last September, in Lo Hermida.

The institution’s response did not provide details and was limited to stating that “the carabinero is under the protection of the Intelligence Law “, so they cannot reveal any background. The same rule that allows Carabineros to request the Civil Registry to hand over false identities to be used by their infiltrated agents.

There was also no official response as to whether an infiltrated carabinero can promote violent actions, such as confronting the same police forces, in addition to collecting evidence of possible crimes or collecting information for intelligence analysis.
