The Mexican Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez beat Turkish Avni Yildirim by knockout in three rounds this Saturday to retain his super middleweight belts of the World Boxing Council and the World Boxing Association.
In a one-sided lawsuit in Miami, Yildirim’s corner did not let his man out in the fourth round thus the Mexican added his 55th win and his 37th fast track victory, with one loss and two draws, while the Turk suffered his third setback with 21 fights won.
Álvarez, who came out with odds 50-1 in favor, took the initiative with a good uppercut and a pair of hooks to the liver, but Yildirim defended well with his guard up.
In the medium and long distance, “Canelo” maintained the initiative in the second round against a cautious opponent, who concentrated on defense and barely hit.
The Mexican was about to finish the actions in the third, with a right he knocked down the Turk, who got up and from there fled from the onslaught of the champion, who increased the advantage with good combinations, after which everything ended.
The victory is the first step for “Canelo” towards his goal of winning all the belts of his division., for which he will challenge the Englishman Billy Joel Saunders, monarch of the World Organization, in May, and in September the American Caleb Plant, champion of the International Federation.
