An extract from “Hay un día feliz” by Nicanor Parra and the fierce voice of sports writer Claudio Palma were the accompaniment of images that remind us of Chile’s past of effort and solidarity.
A choreography by the director Pedro Gajardo and a declamation by the actor Francisco Reyes break in, thus beginning a fair and necessary tribute to the essential workers who have allowed our country to continue operating during the pandemic.
Anonymous heroes
An acknowledgment that was represented by known and anonymous faces: Arturo Guerrero de la Vega Central; Dr. Sebastián Ugarte from the Indisa Clinic, the nurse María Carolina González from the Barros Luco Hospital and the ambulance driver, Francisco González, representing the health workers; Victoria Rosales, driver of Redbus, the household waste collector, Víctor Gaby, along with the teacher Dana Oyarzún and the delivery man from the La Cantera restaurant, Pablo Silva.
They were joined by Wesly Plancher, a Haitian boy who became known for winning a student cueca championship, representing the migrant community residing in Chile. The melancholic beginning of “Pájaros de Clay”, performed by the national group Congreso, joins the presentation of the string quartet “Four seasons” and the payadora Amapola, to give the finishing touch to a long-awaited tribute to those who have made up the first line of recent times.
Dr. Ugarte was excited
Dr. Sebastián Ugarte, one of the most beloved doctors in the country, represented health officials in the overture. The head of the Critical Patients Unit of the Indisa Clinic took the stage while Bafochi and other artists performed in honor of the health workers.
Later, Ugarte was moved to tears when he received a gift from Alejandra Silva, the mother of a child with cancer who lives in Macul and who also runs a soup kitchen to help those in need.
General data
The campaign will last for 13 hours of transmission and hopes to raise the spirit of Chileans during these National Holidays. The money raised will go to the Conecta Mayor foundation, of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, for the Virtual Help and Communication Center called “Conecta Mayor” aimed at communicating and accompanying the elderly. In addition, a special food and supplies kit for people of this age will be delivered. The idea is that the aid can be projected in time.
