Three representatives from Chile Come on fought for the Mayor of Vitacura in the 2020 primaries: Pablo Zalaquett (UDI), Maximiliano del Real (RN) and Camila Merino (Evópoli).
All predictions prior to the day pointed to Del Real winning the elections this Sunday. But the day had a great surprise in store and it was – by a wide voting margin – Camila Merino the one chosen to represent the Chile Vamos conglomerate in the final municipal elections in April 2021.
“I am really very happy, because this is a triumph for the residents of Vitacura ”, She said excited after her triumph was recognized, accompanied by deputies and leaders of her party.
“My commitment is to work hard so that these dreams that we all build come true. This was a very team effort, as I want it to be when I am mayor, ”she said regarding her campaign for the municipal elections of April 11, 2021.
Before the election, Merino had great support, that of her predecessor in the Ministry of Labor, and current Mayor of Providencia, Evelyn Matthei (UDI). The communal chief made public her support for the Evópoli candidate. A position contrary to that adopted by the mayor of Las Condes, Joaquín Lavín, who supported the greamialista letter, Pablo Zalaquett.
“Really I’m glad that a woman as brave as Camila, and that left a big hit in the private sector for facing a public challenge, triumph today in our primaries, ”said Matthei after learning of his victory.
While in his professional career positions in companies have predominated, Merino is remembered in the political arena for having been Minister of Labor and Social Welfare between March 2010 and January 2011, in the first government of Sebastian Piñera. In the position he had to work for the rjob recovery after the February 27 earthquake.

Born in Conception, Camila Merino (53) is the older of two brothers. He studied at the Charles de Gaulle school in the capital of Bío Bío, and at 17 he moved to Santiago to study Industrial Civil Engineering, minor in electricity, at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
Later he made a Master of Business Administration at MIT Sloan School of Management in the United States and entered the Institute of Political Studies of Paris, France.
Among the milestones of his working life stands out his entry into 1991 to the Chilean Chemical and Mining Society (SQM), where she worked in various executive positions until 2005. Then she was director of the Association of Industrialists of Antofagasta.
He switched from the mining sector to transportation, since in December 2007 he assumed as General Manager of the Santiago Metro. During his administration he led the expansion of lines 1 and 5, and implemented the “Express Operation” during peak hours.
Upon leaving the job portfolio of the government of Sebastián Piñera, Camila Merino assumed as Corporate People Manager at the Arauco pulp company, and in 2017 signed as Vice President of Forestry Business.
Merino decided to run again for public office under the wing of Europe, so that resigned from his position in Forestry Business in September 2020, to present your candidacy to the mayor of Vitacura.
