A devastating fire affected the Camanchaca fishery, destroying an important part of the frozen food plant in Talcahuano. Due to the magnitude of the emergency they collaborated in the combat 14 fire companies and almost 200 volunteers, who could not in any case prevent the dense smoke that emanated from going to the nearby Las Higueras Hospital, which together with the loss of jobs, was what worried the deputy mayor of the port commune, Alexis Silva.
“A fire of this magnitude directly affects the employment that people have today in the Talcahuano commune, mainly what this type of company generates,” he said.
Regarding the smoke that went towards the Higueras Hospital, he mentioned that “Precautions were taken. The director of the Environment, Guillermo Rivera, went to the place to talk with the director of the hospital so that she could take precautions ”.
The work inside the Camanchaca fishery, which could cause the fire, was confirmed by the Seremi de Salud del Bío Bío, a body that opened a health investigation against the company to determine the possible infraction that these non-essential works would constitute in a commune quarantine.
