The Fourth Guarantee Court of Santiago agreed to the request of the Eastern Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office and ordered preventive detention for José Alfonso Bulnes Concha, and nighttime house arrest for Enrique Searle Martínez. Both subjects were formalized for the brutal assault on Maximiliano Raide, owner of the restaurant El Europeo and former publisher and current advisor to The counter.

The event occurred on October 1 in Vitacura around 10:45 p.m. That day, after leaving the restaurant, Raide intervened so that these two men, Searle and Bulnes, stopped harassing two women.

“Mr. Raide Prunes tried to help the two women for which he lowered the window of the passenger door of his car and without getting out of him told them to stop drinking in the street, it was late so they had to go to their homes (…) At one point, Mr. Searle opened the door on the passenger side of Mr. Raide’s car and began to physically assault him, which is why Mr. Raide tried to abandon his car through the driver’s door and thus trying to get to safety by getting out of the car, which he did not succeed as Mr. José Alfonso Bulnes Concha (whom he later recognized) crossed in front of the vehicle and, taking advantage of the fact that the driver’s door was ajar, began to insult him , threaten him (he said he was going to “burst” him) and physically attack him, “the judicial appeal details.

It is worth noting that José Alfonso Bulnes Concha is the brother of the former Undersecretary of National Assets of the first Government of Sebastián Piñera, Juan Carlos Bulnes, and was also convicted by the Emilia Law after driving while intoxicated, causing the death of a young man in 2017, so he is on probation. He is also the brother of José Miguel Bulnes Concha, a member of the Board of Directors of the Electoral Service (Servel).

At a hearing set for next week, the Guarantee Court will review the 3-year Probation sentence that was assigned to him for his responsibility for driving while intoxicated resulting in death. The family of the fatal victim will request that the measure be revoked and that the sentence be served in effective prison.
