The North Central Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office will formalize Francisco Javier Frei Ruiz-Tagle, brother of the former president, for seven crimes related to the economic sphere.
This is revealed by the request for a hearing made by the prosecutor Javier Jacir Manterola before him Seventh Guarantee Court of Santiago, document to which La Radio had access.
Meanwhile, the instance will be held on May 19, 2021 at 09:00 hours.
Specifically, the brother of former president Eduardo Frei is charged with the following crimes:
one) Misappropriation, provided for and sanctioned in article 470 No. 1 in relation to article 467 final paragraph of the Penal Code.
two) Unfair administration, provided for and sanctioned in article 470 No. 11 in relation to article 467 final paragraph of the Penal Code.
3) Fraud, provided for and sanctioned in article 468 in relation to article 467 final paragraph of the Penal Code.
4) Malicious Use of False Public Instrument, provided for and sanctioned in article 194 in relation to article 193 of the Penal Code.
5) Malicious use of a Private Commercial Instrument, provided for and sanctioned in article 198 of the Penal Code.
6) Painful Draft of Checks, provided for and sanctioned in article 22 of DFL N ° 707 on Bank Current Accounts and Checks.
7) Crime of malicious use of a false Certificate of Deposit and Pledge Voucher, provided for and sanctioned in article 35 of Law No. 18,690 on General Deposit Warehouses.
In all these crimes, committed between 2005 and 2019, Francisco Frei Ruiz-Tagle appears as the author.
The investigation began after in August 2019 Francisco Frei filed a self-report with the High Complexity Unit of the North Central Prosecutor’s Office of Santiago for fraudulent transactions through a company owned by the ex-president, Inversiones Saturno SA
According to the letter that he then presented to the prosecutor, the illicit amounts would amount to a total of 496 million pesos in instruments such as bills and promissory notes, although -as he said- he would have done so without the consent of his brother.
