The prestigious British medical journal The Lancet rated the president Jair Bolsonaro how the greatest threat to combat the coronavirus in Brazil.
In an editorial, the publication assured that Bolsonaro’s contempt for the disease and non-compliance with the confinement measures are sowing confusion in Brazil, which has recorded a record number of Covid-19 cases and deaths, and is rapidly emerging as one of the largest centers of contagion in the world, according to the agency Reuters.
The Brazilian Ministry of Health reported 9,888 new confirmed cases on Thursday and 610 coronavirus-related deaths, bringing total infections to 135,106 and deaths to 9,146, the deadliest outbreak in an emerging country.
In addition, the British media stated that Bolsonaro is increasingly affected by the political crisis, after the departure of the popular Health Minister Luiz Henrique Mandetta and the resignation of the Minister of Justice Sergio Moro.
“Such a disorder at the heart of the government is a deadly distraction in the midst of a public health emergency and a clear sign that the Brazilian leadership has lost its moral compass, if it ever had one”added The Lancet.
