The President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, and the now former minister Sergio Moro continued this Saturday exchanging harsh accusations after the former federal judge resigned after pointing out interference by the president.

The head of state turned to social networks on Saturday to criticize the alleged ingratitude de Moro, who until yesterday was the “super minister” of Justice and Public Security of Brazil and the most popular member of the Government.

Bolsonaro published a photo along with his former minister and a text that ensures that while Moro was criticized for his alleged impartiality in the case that took former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to prison and some political parties were trying to destroy his reputation, the president remained at his side.

Moro, who became the most visible face of the anti-corruption fight in Brazil, answered Bolsonaro’s words and affirmed that he also supported the president when he was “unfairly attacked”.

“On the claim on the President’s social network about the alleged ingratitude: I also supported the PR (president) when he was unjustly attacked. But preserving the PF (Federal Police) from political interference is an institutional matter, one of the rule of law, and not of people, “Moro replied on Twitter.

Moro’s resignation

Moro resigned on Friday after Bolsonaro dismissed the head of the Federal Police, Maurício Valeixo, a movement that was interpreted as “political interference” by the ruler in investigations of the Judiciary, which the former magistrate called “unacceptable”.

According to the now former minister, Bolsonaro breached the “commitment” assumed with him, that he would have “carte blanche” in the appointment of his direct advisers and in the fight against corruption, in which the Federal Police, which depends on the Ministry of Justice, is key.

Hours after the resignation, the president appeared publicly backed by the majority of his ministers, disqualified Moro and accused him of being willing to accept the dismissal of Valeixo, as long as he was guaranteed a place in the Supreme Court of Brazil at the end this year, which was denied by the former magistrate.

Regarding the accusation of political interference, Bolsonaro affirmed: “There is talk of my interference in the Federal Police, but if I can change a minister, why can’t I change the director of the Federal Police without asking anyone for authorization?”

Investigation against Bolsonaro’s son

According to Moro, the “political pressures” to remove the head of the Federal Police go through ongoing investigations, about which he did not give details, but which according to various sources can splash two of the president’s children, Senator Flavio and Rio de Janeiro Councilman Carlos.

As revealed on Saturday the research portal The Intercept, the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro investigates the alleged involvement of Flavio Bolsonaro in a plot of illegal buildings built by paramilitary groups using public money.

The newspaper claimed to have had access to documents according to which the senator had received the profits from the investments made in the buildings through former captain Adriano da Nóbrega, leader of the criminal organization dedicated to illegal transactions with real estate and that was shot this year by the police in a questioned operation.

According to the portal, said investigation would be one of the reasons for the change of command of the Federal Police in Rio de Janeiro, which is also investigating the case, and in Brasilia.
