A film about the life of the American singer Whitney Houston, from director Stella Meghie, is in full preparation, her press secretary told the AFP news agency on Wednesday, confirming information from several US media.
“I Wanna Dance With Somebody” (I want to dance with someone, translated into Spanish) will be co-produced by New Zealand screenwriter Anthony McCarten, who also wrote the script, according to specialized website Deadline.
The 58-year-old author follows a series of recent hits, all of them biopics, with “The darkest hours” (2017), “Bohemian Rhapsody: The Freddie Mercury Story” (2018) and “The two popes” (2019).
The heirs to Whitney Houston, who died in 2012, gave the go-ahead to production and are collaborating on the project, according to Deadline. The artist’s official website picked up the Deadline article on Wednesday.
Also on the team, according to Deadline, is the producer Clive Davis, the man who made that Whitney houston will sign their first recording contract.
Whitney Houston died at age 48, drowning in her bathtub after consuming a large amount of cocaine.
Despite the end of her career marked by drug addiction, the singer remains one of the great voices of R&B and popular music in general for the past 30 years.
Two recent documentaries have lifted the veil on hitherto taboo aspects of the life of the artist who joined a gospel choir in Newark, New Jersey.
Director Stella Meghie was unveiled in 2016 with a first film well received by critics, Jean of the Joneses, a low budget family comedy.
