This day it was confirmed that the current Minister of Mining, Baldo Prokuriça (RN), will leave the portfolio to take over as the new Defense Minister to replace Mario Desbordes (RN).
This was determined this day by President Sebastián Piñera, according to government sources. The decision will be announced this noon when the President makes a new cabinet adjustment where the departure of Sebastián Sichel from BancoEstado will also take place.
Prokuriça came to the government in January 2018 and since then he had only served as head of Mining. Previously, between 2002 and 2018 he served as a senator for the Atacama Region. And prior to that, from 1990 to 2002 he was a deputy for district 6, which includes Caldera, Freirina, Tierra Amarilla, Huasco, among other communes.
As a representative of the Upper House, he was a member of the Permanent Commission of National Defense. In addition, with its arrival at the Portfolio that Desbordes leaves, the ministry will continue in the hands of Renovación Nacional.
In replacement of Prokuriça, the current Minister of Energy, Juan Carlos Jobet, will assume as biminister.
