“We were studying in our classrooms when suddenly we heard a burst of gunfire inside the university,” said Fraidoon Ahmadi, a 23-year-old student.

Ahmadi said he and several other students were besieged for more than two hours before being rescued.

Last week at least 24 people, most of them students, were killed in a suicide attack on an educational center in western Kabul, in an attack claimed by the Islamic State (IS) organization.
