The Army reported that during this day an outbreak of Covid-19 was found in the Chilean base “Bernardo O’Higgins Riquelme“in Antarctica.
As noted the V Division of the Chilean Army there are 36 positive cases, among which are the personnel of the military institution and of an external maintenance company.
Of the total infected, 26 correspond to uniformed and another 10 are civilians associated with other activities inside the base.
“As is known in recent days, personnel who were serving at the Antarctic Base ‘Bernardo OHiggins Riquelme’ (BAE) had presented symptoms associated with covid-19“said the Army.
The institution added that “according to the above, and thanks to the timely preventive action that the institution materialized, it was possible to relieve said personnel, who, after being subjected to a medical control and After administering a PCR test, it was found that 36 men were found to be positive for Covid-19“.
The Army assured that the infected are under “constant monitoring”, thanks to the “support of the health authority of the Magallanes Region and Chilean Antarctica, managing so far to count with a favorable diagnosis and without any complications associated with the virus“.
