The Armed Forces of Peru announced today that they will put “all their means and capacities in the defense of the people”, after the incidents on Saturday that left two people dead, and that led to the resignation of President Manuel Merino.
“The Joint Command of the Armed Forces expresses its regret over the death of two young Peruvians and reiterates its full support and defense of our people and of the Constitution,” the institution said in a statement on its website.
“The Armed Forces observe strict compliance with their non-deliberative principle based above all on their essential mission of defending the life of Peruvians together with the integrity of the country,” he adds.
“The Armed Forces will put all their means and capabilities in the defense of their people and the rule of law, based on the fundamental principles of freedom and democracy,” says the Joint Command.

They also urged to seek a peaceful resolution of the conflicts in order to find the best alternative to the other problems that the country is facing.
The statement was published on the social network Twitter at the same time that Manuel Merino delivered a message to the population, resigning from the presidency of the neighboring country, assumed less than a week ago after the removal of Martín Vizcarra.
This morning, Manuel Merino had summoned the general commanders of the Army, Navy and Air Force for a meeting at the headquarters of the Executive Power, but none attended.
