Argentina surpassed 10,000 deaths from covid-19 this Monday while the number of infected is close to half a million, the Ministry of Health reported in a statement.

This Monday, 271 new deaths were added to the list of deaths that totaled 10,129 throughout the territory, while infections reached 487,994 with 9,215 new cases in the last 24 hours.

The South American country, de 44 million inhabitants, goes through a phase with a high number of daily infections, averaging 10,000 in the last week.

About 85% of the cases are concentrated in the Metropolitan Area of ​​Buenos Aires (AMBA), where some 15 million people live, but there are also foci in other provinces such as Jujuy (north) or Mendoza (west).

The beds in intensive care units are occupied by 61.9% nationwide, although in the metropolitan area of ​​Buenos Aires they are occupied by 67.8%,
reported the ministry.

Despite the rise in infections in the Argentine capital and several cities in the interior of the country, hundreds of people have mobilized in the streets to demand the end of the restriction measures imposed by the government of Alberto Fernández to stop the spread of the disease .

The quarantine, which began on March 20, has since eased and is no longer strictly enforced in virtually any part of the country.

Almost all the provinces and districts have allowed the gradual and controlled return of some activities under sanitary protocols,
although with marches and countermarches according to the rate of infections.

In the Argentine capital, the reopening of restaurants and night bars has even been allowed, although only with a limited number of tables and arranged only on the sidewalks.

However, public transport remains limited to use by workers considered essential.

Neither are schools nor universities open, while all public shows remain suspended.

The use of face masks is mandatory on public roads and social gatherings in closed spaces remain restricted and limited to ten people in outdoor places.
