During this Wednesday it was announced that the national prosecutor, Jorge Abbott, appointed the Bío Bío regional prosecutor, Marcela Cartagena, as in charge of directing the investigation into the death of little Tomás Bravo. After the announcement, The prosecutor explained that his appointment was produced by the discovery of “strong antecedents” that would support the theory of the Prosecutor’s Office.

In that sense, Cartagena pointed out that “the resolution of the national prosecutor consists of decreeing and ordering that as of today whoever speaks to him leads the investigation and becomes part of the existing team. Indeed, that is what I have done by mandate of the national prosecutor and keeping intact the team that already existed, specifically, the chief prosecutor of Arauco, Mr. José Ortiz Jiménez, who will accompany me from now on in the development of all the work that we must do”.

Asked if there is any precedent that stands for its designation, Cartagena pointed out that “indeed there is an element (…) that gives rise, which has to do with information, the result of a diligence that we learned about today (Wednesday) and that provides strong antecedents in pursuit of our theory of the case and of what we have raised from the beginning in this investigation “.

“This is a background that, for reasons beyond our control, we did not have at hand yesterday (Tuesday) when the hearing took place, and that is why only today we have been able to refer to it. I clarify that it has indeed already been brought to the attention of the other intervening parties in this case, I am referring to the defense and the different plaintiffs, in order to be evidently alluded to in the hearing tomorrow (Thursday) before the most illustrious Court of Appeals of Concepción ”, declared.

Finally, he added that for this reason he must “Refrain from giving the details.” Let us remember that the appeal presented by the Prosecutor’s Office will be reviewed this Thursday.
