He Regional Hospital of Antofagasta, Dr Leonardo Guzmán, is currently experiencing a critical situation, maintaining 100% of the critical beds occupied, given the increase in infections by the coronavirus.
This was stated by the general director of the healthcare facility, Enrique Bastías, who confirmed that all the beds for critically ill patients, covid-19 patients and those with serious pathologies, are occupied.
In this regard, the authority pointed out that recently they had to send patients to the Metropolitan region, since in the northern health center there is no capacity to provide good care.
“We are working according to our maximum capacity, which implies that we have also had to make referrals to other UPCs in pursuit of us also to generate our plan to increase beds and that also requires provision, which is what is being analyzed in based on the resources that have been assigned to us for this year 2021 ”, assured Bastías.
In that sense, the manager pointed out that during this week they will request the Ministry of Health that they be given more funds to hire personnel to care for the critically ill.
But in addition, they will seek resources to increase the number of beds that are destined precisely for people with serious illnesses.
The authority said that at this time the situation is quite worrying in the regional hospital of Antofagasta.
