Assuring that “the march of the Mapuche resistance ended with the same excesses as always”, the mayor of Santiago, Felipe Alessandri, repudiated the “violent men who today attacked, mainly, a Transantiago whereabouts.”
He requested, for the same reason, a “social pact” to condemn acts of violence. However, he assured that this is very difficult to achieve when observing the statements of deputy Guilliermo Teillier. “Clearly he has not understood anything. If he legitimizes the violence, it is very difficult for Chile to advance.”
The mayor assured that it is no longer possible to continue in the logic of filing legal actions – although tomorrow it will do so anyway – but that we must advance more emphatically.
Alessandri’s pact
“It is the neighbors and the city that loses. There must be a total condemnation of violence, the city no longer resists, they have destroyed everything,” said Alessandri, assuring that although they think differently, we must move forward together.
There will always be reasons to demonstrate, he argued, but such mobilizations cannot always end with violence. “Santiago is in a coma, the violentists have made a real war field,” he said.
He reiterated that they will continue to rebuild and “fight for sanity to prevail.”
