During this day, the Finance Commission approved in general, by 8 votes in favor and 4 against, the Executive’s bill that establishes new demands for transparency and responsibilities of market agents. In the instance, the Minister of Finance, Ignacio Briones, decided to withdraw the indication presented by the Executive that sought to restrict the changes of funds in the AFPs, establishing a period of up to 30 days for the administrators to make said change. This after being described as “unconstitutional” by opposition parliamentarians.

The opposition legislators maintained a strong rejection of the indication as a result of the limitation to the ability of workers to change funds.

In this regard, the head of the Treasury argued that the restriction of freedom is justified because the changes between funds are not innocuous for the construction of the pension in the long term.

However, the Secretary of State decided to withdraw the indication, after the commission’s secretariat declared it inadmissible for going against the main ideas of the project.

After the vote in general, the instance began the discussion in particular of the initiative, which will continue until its full dispatch in the session of this Wednesday, October 7.
