The accused was held in preventive prison for the death of a transgender man in Valdivia, a crime that was condemned by diversity organizations.
The prosecutor Carlos Bahamondes formalized Víctor Abarca Díaz (50 years old) in the Valdivia Guarantee Court for the alleged crime of robbery with homicide, a fact that he would have committed at dawn this Saturday in a vacant place located between Lynch and Simpson streets in Valdivia.
Bahamondes pointed out that the defendant killed the victim, Vicente González Lora (25 years old), and then stole his belongings. He also added that the investigation is in the beginning period, so an eventual crime of a sexual nature is not ruled out.
“The victim was half-naked and therefore samples were taken that could eventually lead to a crime of a sexual nature in addition to adding the above. What we have concluded so far, because this investigation formally begins today, is that this person was suffocated through the use of force directed at the neck, without prejudice to the fact that another element could have been used, ”he said.
After the presentation of the Prosecutor’s Office, the Guarantee court agreed to order the precautionary measure of preventive detention against the accused, as indicated by judge Fabián Duffau.
“At the request of the Prosecutor’s Office, the defendant was ordered to be held in custody due to the existence of sufficient evidence of his participation in the crime of homicide, based on records in security cameras and his clothing similar to the images, as well as the seriousness of the crime, the penalty assigned to it and conviction assistance ”, he detailed.
The Homosexual Integration and Liberation Movement (Movilh) denounced the incident on its website, also exposing its annoyance that, in the organization’s opinion, the victim’s gender identity was not respected.
The foregoing was also exposed by the president of the Valdivian Association for Sexual Diversity (Valdiversa), Miguel Valenzuela, who said that they corroborated the information with Vicente’s family.
“We saw the information from Movilh that it was Vicente, and since we had already set the alarms (…), immediately andor I contacted the family to be able to rectify the information that he was trans, or it was really Elizabeth, or it was Vicente, and then the family of course corroborates that he had always expressed himself as a man and he had always had that gender identity as a man and from there Vicente’s name came out and he liked to be called Bicho, so Vicente’s memory is the one that is being asked for justice ”, he assured.
The head of the Victims and Witnesses Attention Unit (Uravit) of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office of Los Ríos, Ximena Valenzuela, indicated that only in the last hours did they know said antecedent after the publication of Movilh, contacting the young man’s mother, who informed them that it was in a transition process. The lawyer referred to the victim, now, with his gender name.
“Information that had not been delivered before by family members who were contacted for support efforts. Immediately after learning of this publication, the mother of Vicente González Lorca was contacted, who confirmed that she was in a transition process. We want to show that the Prosecutor’s Office highly respects gender identity and seeks non-discrimination, ”he said.
Meanwhile, to investigate the case, the Valdivia Guarantee Court established an initial term of 100 days.
