During the day of this Tuesday the commission of the Chamber of Deputies and Deputies that analyzes the constitutional accusation against the former Minister of Health, Jaime Mañalich, an instance where the head of the Department of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health, Rafael Araos participated.
On the occasion, Araos pointed out that, according to preliminary data from the Minsal that still need to be refined, 25% of the patients who died from COVID died without hospitalization or without a history of having been hospitalized.
“The death curve is decreasing significantly and we are approaching an average of 40-50 deaths per day, and when we see the data that we have, it is not for all patients who have died, but around (…) 13 thousand, 14 thousand patients, only 25% have died outside the hospital or without a history of being hospitalized, “he said.
Along these lines, he clarified: “The truth is that this data must be refined and that number has notably decreased and it is definitely something that we are looking at in detail to understand why there are people who are dying without being hospitalized “.
“I can tell you that most of the people who are hospitalized have a similar pathology profile and it is important to detect if the group of people who are not being hospitalized is due to clinical decisions or some problem that we must improve in terms of management, and that is being worked ”, he assured.
However, according to Araos, the estimate does not apply to all patients who died from COVID, where those who died with and without laboratory confirmation – according to information provided by DEIS-Minsal – they reach 17,480, but it applies to 13,356 of that same segment, adding that the data still needs to be cleaned.
