One person was arrested for sending to the White House of an envelope for the president Donald trump It contained a poisonous substance identified as ricin, US authorities confirmed Sunday.

The suspect is a woman who was carrying a weapon when she was detained, US media said.

“I can confirm that an arrest was made at Peace Bridge in Buffalo, New York,” Aaron Bowker, an official with the Customs and Border Protection Service, told AFP. The Peace Bridge links Canada to New York State.

On Saturday, US media reported that authorities had intercepted an envelope addressed to Trump that contained ricin.

The letter was discovered last week and did not reach the White House, according to The New York Times and CNN.

According to the newspaper, it was presumed that it had been dispatched from Canada.

Correspondence to the White House is first inspected and classified outside of Washington.

CNN said the envelope was inspected and tested several times and confirmed to have ricin; a poison capable of killing anyone who swallows, inhales or injects it in one minute.

An official who is not authorized to report the matter told AFP that the person arrested will be taken to court on Monday.
