Universidad Católica advances in its dream of expanding and modernizing the San Carlos de Apoquindo stadium. This afternoon, the president of Cruzados, Juan Tagle, received the ANFP helmsman, Pablo Milad, as well as Cecilia Pérez, Minister of Sports, and Miguel Ángel Mujica, head of the Coch, among other guests.

In this activity, called Open House, the public limited company that administers UC football seeks to know the opinion and concerns of the authorities, with respect to the project to enlarge the precordillerano coliseum. Also obtain feedback from the neighbors of the neighborhood, due to the impact that a much greater influx of public can generate when the capacity increases.

The goals of Cruzados are several: that San Carlos de Apoquindo becomes a multisport, ecological and self-sustainable stadium, which is the most modern in Chile, and that it serves as the venue for the Santiago 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games.

On the occasion, the club announced a tentative schedule for the project, whose most important pillar, financing, should be ready the first half of next year, together with the environmental qualification resolution, and then request the building permit. While for the second semester of 2021, and once the authorization to build is obtained, a bidding process for the works will be opened.

The main source of resources will be the name well. Thus, it is most likely that the name of the redoubt will be accompanied by a brand for many years, as has been done in Europe for quite some time. There will also be indebtedness by Cruzados, the concessionaire that leases the stadium to the CDUC. In fact, the president of the Sports Club, José Manuel Vélez, was also at the activity held this afternoon in Las Condes.

The plan is for the capacity of San Carlos de Apoquindo to increase from 14,000 to 20,000 spectators, and that its stands are covered. “We want it to be an icon, a source of pride. That it be an aesthetic contribution to the commune, that it be the most modern and that it does not generate acoustic or lighting problems. We are going to have an improvement to the interior of the enclosure, but much less impact to the exterior. We dream of a partially covered stadium. We hope that the neighbors know what we have advanced and tell us their concerns when we make the final design, “said Tagle.

“Our goal is to reach the 2023 Pan American Games. We want to be a contribution to the commune, to the country. It is a venue that will be primarily for soccer, but also for other sports, cultural activities and shows, “he added.

For her part, Milad appreciated the students’ plan: “I want to congratulate Cruzados for his avant-garde project. First, because it is respectful with the ecosystem and very respectful of people, because regardless of the demands of the environmental assessment, it is the consideration of listening to people, which makes this project important ”.

The Sports Minister also had praise. “I want to congratulate Universidad Católica for this dream and project that is beginning to materialize, since it is ambitious, but very generous. In this Open House we realize that it is not only to change the face of this stadium, but it is also to do it hand in hand with sustainability and to privilege a stadium experience and not only for the benefit of the fan, but also for the community. Along these lines, the project is generous, because the Catholic University understood the new times and put the neighbor at the heart of the project, ”he said.
