This Saturday the “Healthy Orders” initiative was launched, a novel system that, through an application, allows purchases to be made at free fairs online and with home delivery.

“This initiative is very important, since with ‘Healthy Orders’ we seek to bring healthy eating to people, especially in these moments where the call is to stay home. We know that the products of the fairs are valued by families, especially lower-income families, which according to studies make more than half of their spending on fruits and vegetables from free fairs, “explained the Executive Secretary of Choose Live Healthy. , Daniela Godoy.

He also highlighted that “from today the residents of the Santiago commune can access, free of charge for a few months, a home delivery of fruits, vegetables, legumes and other basic necessities that are sold at free fairs. And in Choose to Live Healthy we want to go further, so we are already working so that the coverage of this benefit extends to more communes throughout the country. ”

According to the mayor of Santiago, Felipe Alessandri, “free fairs are the living heritage of our commune and need to function in compliance with all sanitary measures. But, at the same time, and to avoid the crowds that spread infections, we want to promote the use of technology so that our neighbors can purchase these same quality products and take them home, which is what we are launching today through of this alliance between fairgrounds and Orders Now “, highlighted Mayor Alessandri.

This agreement will initially work in 6 fairs in the community, Herrera, Martínez de Rozas, Esperanza, Coquimbo, July 10 and San Camilo, which will supply the neighbors from Tuesday to Sunday. The first months the buyers will not pay the value of the transfer, only the cost of the products.

The Undersecretary of Agriculture, José Ignacio Pinochet, appreciated the way in which “fairmen and farmers manage to offer fresh fruits and vegetables. This initiative is one more example that fairs must continue to function. The field feeds us, we need our farmers at least three times a day, and with initiatives like these we reiterate our admiration for the Chilean countryside for continuing to work despite the difficulties. ”
